Girlfriends consists of 2 guitarists, a bassplayer and a drummer. Like Beequeen, they come from Nijmegen and have a contract for releasing music with the American Beta Lactam-Ring Records as well. Girlfriends enjoy playing Krautrock in the broadest sense of the term. Even though there are many differences between the two bands, there are also some interesting similarities. These led to the idea of playing live as one band. So in the tiny but cosy and crowded Extrapool club in Nijmegen Girlfriends and Beequeen joined forces. Those present were; Erik and Martin on guitar, Rob and Freek on bass guitar, Maaike on drums and Frans on his laptop and synthesizer. It seemed almost everyone added at least 7 or 8 effect-units to their set-up. Raymond did the sound and recorded the show on digital 8-track for a possible future release. The show itself went really well, especially considering the fact that they played together for the first time. Prior to the show a 16-mm compilation of 50's trash and horror clips were shown much to the audience's amusement. Quite a nice evening. (FK) Soundman: Raymond Steeg.
